Young girl accidentally shot during target practice dies
C HARLESTON, W.Va. -- A young girl has died after she was shot during target practice near Quick, deputies said.
Two children, aged 9 and 10, were out on Pentacre Road target shooting near a creek with a 410 shotgun late Sunday afternoon when one accidentally shot the other, said Cpl. Brian Humphreys, Kanawha Sheriff's Office spokesman.
Humphreys said the 10-year-old girl was shot in the arm and chest. Initially the girl was taken from the scene in a car, but county paramedics met the car along the route to the scene and took the girl to Charleston Area Medical Center's General Hospital.
HealthNet was called out to assist if needed but medics determined it would be faster to drive.
She was taken into surgery upon arrival, but died overnight.
Detectives are investigating the incident.
