CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- A pedestrian struck and killed on the Patrick Street Bridge has been identified as James Allen Ward, of Charleston, said Sgt. Tony Hazelett of the Charleston Police Department.
The incident occurred about 4:30 p.m. Tuesday as Ward tried crossing the southbound lanes and was struck and killed by a truck, Hazelett said.
As he tried to walk between the truck and the trailer, he fell and was killed instantly, he said.
Police say Ward was not using the crosswalk and the driver who was carrying construction equipment will likely not face charges. Authorities said Ward was homeless but had family in the area.
