CLARKSBURG, W.Va. — The Harrison County Sheriff's Department is investigating a fatal police shooting on Interstate 79 during a chase.
Media outlets report that deputies shot the man after he rammed several police vehicles and tried to ram another one.
Sheriff Albert Marano and Harrison County prosecutor Joe Shaffer say the chase began Monday after a woman reported being harassed by the man near the Clarksburg Post Office. The man fled in truck as he was being questioned by Clarksburg police.
The Clarksburg officers pursued the man onto U.S. 50. Sheriff's deputies joined the chase but Shaffer says it was called off when speeds became too high for public safety.
Shaffer says officers resumed the chase when the man tried to ram a civilian vehicle on I-79.
The man's name hasn't been released.
