CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- A Texas man was arrested Tuesday after members of the Kanawha County Sheriff's Department's Tactical Operations Patrol team found a large amount of crystal methamphetamine and cash in an area motel room.
Corporal B.D. Humphreys of the Kanawha County Sheriff's Office said Steve E. Gonzales, 25, of Pasadena, Texas, was arrested Tuesday evening on charges of possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine.
Humphreys said the S.T.O.P. team received tips and information that subjects from Texas were traveling to the Kanawha County area and staying in local motels distributing methamphetamine. Officers executed a search warrant on Gonzales's room at the Budget Host Inn in Malden and recovered crystal methamphetamine with a street value of more than $25,000, along with several hundred dollars in cash.
Gonzales was arraigned Tuesday night and later released from the South Central Regional Jail on a $50,000 property bond.
