BECKLEY, W.Va. -- Police are investigating after a University of Charleston-Beckley basketball player was found dead in her dorm room this week.
Beckley Police identified the student as Sheila "Coko" Hopkins, 19, of Bluefield. The body was found Wednesday in a room at Hogan Hall.
Detective Cpl. M.G. Bragg said Hopkins was a basketball player for the UC women's basketball team.
Wednesday, Bragg said the death did not appear to be suspicious, but police are investigating.
"Our deepest sympathies go out to the family of Sheila Hopkins, who was found deceased in her room in Hogan Hall yesterday," Dr. Edwin Welch, University of Charleston president, said in a statement.
"This is truly a heartbreaking situation for many people. We are meeting with UC-Beckley students, faculty and staff at this time to help them deal with this tragedy."Hopkins' body was sent to the state medical examiner's office to determine the cause of death.
