A Fayette County man already serving 10 years in federal prison on a child pornography charge will spend more time in prison after failing to appear at his initial sentencing.
Sr. U.S. District Judge David Faber on Monday added a year to the 10-year term Brett David Bowyer, 34, of Scarbro, is serving, according to a statement by U.S. Attorney Booth Goodwin.
Bowyer pleaded guilty in September 2013 to failing to appear for sentencing. His sentencing hearing originally was set for May 30, 2012 in Bluefield, but Bowyer did not appear.
A Brevard County, Fla., deputy arrested him on June 12, 2013 during a traffic stop.
He'll serve the additional year after he completes his 10-year sentence.
The U.S. Marshals Service and the West Virginia Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force conducted the investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorney Lisa Johnston handled prosecution.
