CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- The boyfriend of a St. Albans area woman charged with killing her mother has been arrested and charged as an accessory to murder.
Cpl. Brian Humphreys, Kanawha Sheriff's Office spokesman, said deputies arrested Shawn Legg on Tuesday and planned to charge him with accessory to murder after the fact.
Deputies arrested Legg's girlfriend, Jessica Woods, 36, of West Main Street, Monday morning at the Days Inn hotel in Kanawha City. Woods was charged with first-degree murder in the death of her 59-year-old mother, Eva Linda Woods.
Eva was reported missing Saturday but hadn't actually been seen for more than a week.
Legg told deputies in a previous interview that he and Jessica Woods had been dating for about three weeks and that he'd moved into the West Main Street home that belonged to her mother, according to a criminal complaint.
He said she told him that she owned a construction outfit and that the house was hers. He told police that he never saw Eva at the house and that Jessica said her mother lived elsewhere.
Jessica Woods became agitated and nervous when detectives tried to go into the shed Saturday. She told officers that only her mother had the keys and that her mother would be angry if they took the doors off of the hinges, according to the complaint.
Woods allegedly told a friend that she "couldn't take it no more, didn't mean for it to happen," the complaint said.
Detectives served a search warrant at Eva Woods' West Main Street home Sunday and found her body near an incomplete shallow grave inside a locked shed.
Jessica Woods remains at South Central Regional Jail where she's being held without bond.
Legg was to be arraigned Tuesday night at Kanawha Magistrate Court.
